Trump wrote in a Truth Social post, “We are going to make the Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C., GREAT AGAIN, at my direction.”
The nation’s national cultural hub, the Kennedy Centre, is managed by a public-private partnership. Eleanor Roosevelt came up with the concept for such a centre in the 1930s, and Congress approved it in 1958. In 1971, it formally opened for business. David Rubenstein, a billionaire philanthropist and co-founder of the private equity firm the Carlyle Group, is currently the chairman of the Kennedy Centre. Rubenstein was scheduled to retire this year after serving in the role since 2010. The president usually appoints members to the board of trustees. According to the Hill, the board currently includes singer Lee Greenwood, lobbyist Brian Ballard, and attorney general Pam Bondi, all of whom are Trump supporters. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is one of several Biden appointments who remain on the board. Congress has the authority to appoint ex-officio members, and first women are honorary members.
